In the 2011 census, the Greater Dublin Area (Meath, Kildare and Wicklow) now accounts for 40% of the population of Ireland, while Co Dublin alone accounts just under 30%. Here’s the population sizes of the counties of Ireland mapped: DATA SOURCE: Census 2011 on cso.ie

The National Transport Authority (NTA) launched its draft strategy for the Greater Dublin Area recently. The NTA stressed at the time that it was not just a list of projects, as shown below it’s also based on fairly substantial data. Here’s the locations of real-time bus displays which are installed or due to be installed around Dublin. The data is currently incomplete. It also only includes Dublin City Council and Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council areas — it does not include Fingal or South Dublin. Journalists only make 8 FOI requests to Fingal County Council between 2004 and 2008. Requests from journalists, however, were were higher in 2009, with 9 requests in a single year. The information was released as Fingal County Council launched the Fingal Open Data today: fingal.ie/opendata/ Out of 415 requests in six years, only 19 were from journalists:
