Man in critical condition after assault on Abbey Street

A man is in critical condition at the Matter Hospital after an assault last night in Dublin City Centre.

Gardai said the assault happened outside the Irish Life Mall building on Lower Abbey Street shortly before 10.30pm on Friday.

“An altercation occurred between two males, one in his late 20s and the other in his early 30s. The male in his late 20s was removed to the Mater Hospital and is currently in a critical condition,” said Sergeant Margaret Flanagan of the Garda press office.

She added: “Gardai are particularly interested in hearing from any witnesses that may have been in the vicinity of Lower Abbey Street between 10.15pm and 10.30pm on Friday night 11th February, 2011.  There was a number 33 bus on Lower Abbey Street at the time of the incident with passengers on board who may have witnessed the incident.”
