Man found hiding in garden with 5 litres of petrol

A man was arrested with 5 litres of petrol hiding in a garden just after a window was smashed on a pub early this morning.

Gardai say they arrived at the pub on the North Circular Road at around 2.15am last night to find a window smashed.

“Gardai responding to the incident discovered a window of the premises smashed on arrival.  Following a search of the immediate area Gardai discovered a male hiding in the garden of a house on North Circular Road in possession of a 5 litre container filled with petrol,” said Sergeant Alan Roughneen of the Garda Press Office.

Gardai from Fitzgibbon Street Station are investigating the incident as criminal damage. The 26-year-old man was arrested and is currently being detained in Mountjoy Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
