Probe launched after Garda car hits suspectCity Centre, Dublin City, Featured Updates, News Tuesday, December 21st, 2010
An investigation is under way after a garda car hit a woman in snowy conditions, the Garda Ombudsman has confirmed to Dublin Observer today.
Its is believed the woman who was just arrested was being put into the back of a garda van when the garda car hit her and two gardai who were escorting her.
The incident occurred on the Luas red line tracks outside Arnotts on Abbey Street yesterday afternoon just after 5pm.
The Irish Independent reported this morning that it is understood nobody was seriously hurt, although the woman did receive medical attention on the ground before being moved.
The event was referred by the Garda Commissioner to the Garda Ombudsman for investigation, as is required practice for any incident involving a member of the force.
The Ombudsman said it could not provide any detail other than to confirm it is investigating the event. The Garda press office did not reply to a request sent yesterday for comment.
