DATA BLOG: Dublin city manager diaries

As a part of a process of freeing Government information, using Freedom of Information we requested a copy of the diaries of the city manager and the diaries of the assistant city managers for the year 2009, and for 2010 up to the end of August 2010.

This was the response:

“Copies of the diaries are released insofar as they relate to City Council business. The City Manager is John Tierney. Assistant City Managers are Ciaran McNamara (retired September 2010) replaced by Martin Kavanagh (acting); Michael Stubbs; Philip Maguire; Matt Twomey (retired March 2009) replaced by Seamus Lyons; Ciaran Murray (retired September 2010 – not replaced).”

“Diary entries of a personal nature have been removed. Personal information in this context means information about an identifiable individual that would, in the ordinary course of events, be known only to the individual or members of the family, or friends, of the individual. Section 28 applies in this case.”

“Ballymun Regeneration Ltd have informed me that Ciaran Murray did not keep any diary either written or electronic. Accordingly access to this record is refused under Section 10 (1)(a) of the Act – on the grounds that it does not exist. The diary of Matt Twomey was deleted after his retirement, therefore access to this record is refused under Section 10 (1)(a) of the Act – on the grounds that it does not exist.”
